Tundish Boards

Vacuum-formed silica boards

Vacuum-formed silica-based insulating boards used as the working lining of the tundish in continuous casting. Engineered for low thermal conductivity, minimal steel contamination and clean, single-use disposability at end of cast.

Overview

Built for consistent service.

Manufactured by a controlled wet-forming process using high-purity silica fibres and inorganic binders. Boards are dried through a sequenced drying cycle to eliminate internal moisture gradients, producing a lining with predictable thermal behaviour and a consistent inner surface. Standard boards are supplied in 20 mm and 25 mm thicknesses, cut to your tundish geometry.

Applications
  • Working lining for slab, bloom and billet tundishes
  • Insulating base and side-wall boards
  • Single-heat and sequence casting operations
  • Clean-steel and low-carbon grades
Advantages
  • Low thermal conductivity — reduced heat loss from liquid steel
  • Minimal reaction with molten steel, low pickup
  • Fast, clean tundish preparation between heats
  • Consistent thickness and dimensional accuracy
  • Easy removal at end of cast — reduced turnaround
Handling, storage & installation

Store boards flat, off the floor, in a dry area. Do not stack more than five high. Handle by edges; avoid impact on the working face. Pre-installation, allow boards to acclimatise for at least 12 hours in the tundish preparation bay.

Packing & despatch

Palletised, shrink-wrapped, boards separated by protective sheets. Standard pack: 20–40 boards per pallet depending on size. Lead time: 7–10 days ex-plant.

FAQ

Technical questions.

20 mm is standard for most billet tundishes running short sequences. For longer sequences or higher superheats, 25 mm is preferred.
